Theresa Marie Steeves

It is with immense sadness we share that Theresa Marie Steeves (MacEachern), age 63, passed away suddenly on October 25th, 2024 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Neil and Kathleen “Nonie” (Sullivan) MacEachern.

Theresa grew up in a loving home in Dartmouth, where she also attended school. She pursued post-secondary studies, including at Mount Saint Vincent University, where she trained to begin her well-respected career in insolvency. She married John (Tim) Steeves in 1988. Theresa, Tim, and Daniel settled in Lower Sackville, surrounded by closeknit family and friends.

Theresa was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She lived for her family, so much so that she and Tim moved to Edmonton to follow Daniel, as he pursued his career in 2003. She was dedicated to her career, and was highly sought after in the insolvency community, both in Alberta and Nova Scotia. She worked tirelessly to help provide for her family. She loved hosting big family dinners, carefully recreating her mother’s famous spaghetti and meatball recipe, which no one else has been able to get ‘just right’. She held family connections dear and ensured family, extended and blended family, and friends felt important, valued, welcomed and included. Our family remembers her as taking genuine interest in everyone, asking specific questions about each person’s life because she truly wanted to know the answers. Her kindness and caring for others were at her foundation. She would proudly share the stories and accomplishments of nieces, nephews, great-nephew, and great-niece, who she treasured dearly. She cherished her grandson, Emmett and was a doting Nana. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with Emmett; watching movies, sharing snacks, and catching up on the adventures he had that week. She was looking forward to easing into retirement in the next few years to spend even more time with family. Her untimely passing is a devastating loss, but her spirit will live on though her family and friends.

Theresa is survived by her son Daniel (Missy) Steeves and grandson Emmett; brother Colin (Geneviève) MacEachern; brothers-in-law Phil (Angela) Steeves, Danny Steeves (Lorraine Archibald) and Austin French (Joan Backman); sister-in-law Barb (Scott) Oickle; nieces and nephews Jessica (Peter) Towner, Andrew French (Kaitlyn O’Handley), Justine (Doug) Houlihan, Thomas MacEachern and Somer MacEachern; great-nephew and niece, Carson and Sophie; along with several nieces and nephews through marriage, and a large extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, John (Tim) Steeves; sister Valerie French; brothers Brian MacEachern and Allan in infancy; mother-in-law Vivian Steeves; brothers-in-law Allan Steeves and Pat Steeves, and his wife Myrna.
