Born in Sparta, Greece, on August 17th, 1961, Vicky immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia in her teenage years with the help and support of her eldest sister, Dimitra (Toula). In Halifax, she built a new life filled with faith, family, and devotion. Here she met her future husband, Nick Garonis, and together they made Halifax their lifelong home—raising two sons and creating a legacy grounded in love, tradition, and hard work.
Vicky was a woman of quiet strength and deep loyalty. She was soft-spoken, humble, and immensely kind. She was a devoted mother and a steady, guiding force in her family’s life. Her warmth, resilience, and unwavering commitment to those she loved defined who she was.
She was deeply involved in her community, especially through the Greek Orthodox Church and the Greek Koinotita (Community) in Halifax. Vicky was a passionate volunteer, generously giving her time and energy. She was especially proud to serve as a Greek dancing teacher, joyfully passing on the traditions of her culture to the next generation.
For decades, Vicky played an integral role in the family business. She was deeply hands-on in the day-to-day operations of King of Donair, and she also worked actively in the management of their real estate properties. Many may also know Vicky from her decades of work at the well-known, infamous Spartan restaurant on Quinpool Road.
Vicky's daughter in law Tiffany always said to whoever would listen that she was so lucky to have the best mother-in-law, especially when people asked what it was like living next door, they were best friends. Vicky's world revolved around her family, especially her grand daughters Rosetta and Rheia, whom she loved fiercely instilling values and traditions every single day, right until the very end.
She is survived by her two sons, Peter Garonis (Tiffany) and Vasili Garonis, her beloved mother, Eugenia Vavaroutsos now 92 years old, her sister ‘Toula’ (John) Theoharopoulos, and the joys of her life, her two grandchildren Rosetta and Rheia Garonis. She now joins her late father Adonis Vavaroutsos, her two brothers Panayiotis and Sotiros, and her husband, Nick Garonis.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at J A Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. The funeral service and burial will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM (noon) at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Halifax.
Vicky’s life was one of grace, tradition, and steadfast love. Her absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her. But her legacy—the values she lived by, the strength she embodied, and the love she gave so freely—will live on in all of us.
