

A priest of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, Father Vernon was born in Halifax, NS, the son of the late Albert Edward Driscoll and Winnifred Mary Redmond. He was also predeceased by his aunt, Anne Redmond, who assumed the role of mother following the illness of her sister, Winnifred; his brother, John and his nephew, David Driscoll.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret; brothers, Albert (Theresa), David (Madge), Kenneth (Verna), Peter (Marilyn) and his sister-in-law, Maureen; 20 nieces, nephews and many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Educated in Halifax at St. Mary’s University and Holy Heart Seminary, he was ordained in 1961; he faithfully served for 55 years in various roles in the following parishes: St Augustine’s – Chester; St. Mary’s Cathedral – Halifax; St. Theresa’s – Halifax; St. Thomas More – Dartmouth; St. John Vianney – Sackville; St. Patrick’s – Halifax; St. Pius X – Halifax; Immaculate Conception – Truro; Holy Family – Amherst; Moderator of the Cumberland County Regional Pastoral Team.
Visitation will be held in Holy Family Church, Amherst, NS, on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm followed by The Vigil Service at 7:30 pm. On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, visitation will be held at Saint Benedict Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax from 1:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Benedict Church on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:00 am, Archbishop Anthony Mancini presiding. Reception to follow in parish hall after which burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
