She was born in Halifax, NS, the daughter of David and Lily Mitchell Fader, born Halifax and England respectively. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter and dear infant son, John David, as well as five sisters, two brothers, and son-in-law, Douglas R. Grant. She will be very sadly missed by daughter, Eleanor, Prospect, NS; grandsons, Kevin (Carole), Prospect, Ken, Ottawa and great granddaughter, Emma, Ottawa.
Viola was a very caring and wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an accomplished singer and gave many concerts in her early years including Ladies Business and Professional Club, Fortnightly Club and several churches. She also sang with the Dalhousie Chorale, the Atlantic Symphony Choir, Royal NS Tattoo and other groups. She was a long standing member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church serving as president of both the Chancel Guild and Woman’s Auxiliary. Her beautiful needlepoint still remains there and she embroidered the church linens for 50 years. She was a member of the church choir for many years and a Sunday school teacher in the early years. She loved tending her garden and award winning roses.
She was a wonderful homemaker, always eager to bake, and to preserve the harvest. She created beautiful clothes, evening gowns, hats etc. and toys for the whole family. She also wrote numerous poems and some church hymns. She was a friend to many and always eager to help. She had a bed and breakfast for several summers and at age 98 still received cards and letters from guests who had stayed in her home. She was born with a beautiful smile and a song in her heart.
Many thanks to her caring friends, family, Dr. Gina Burgess, as well as the wonderful V.O.N. and Northwood home care and Dr. Gordon and staff at the QEII as well as the Reverend Dr. Paul Friesen. There will be a private family burial. Condolences only please, and donations may be made to V.O.N., Northwood, or a charity of your choice.
