Wade Downey

Wade (Sonny) William Downey, age 62, passed away on June 5, 2023, at May's Hospice in Vancouver BC, after a battle with cancer. Wade was born on June 17, 1960, in Halifax, NS adopted by William (Bill) Henry Downey and Ruth (Gabriel) Downey.

In Wade’s younger days, he worked as a security guard for the NS liquor commission and a Deck Hand with the Canadian Coast Guard in Nova Scotia for a number of years. After retirement, he went out west in search of something new and refreshing. In Vancouver, he found a job taking care of race horses and worked as a labourer on numerous construction sites. He was very fonde of the people he worked with and the community he lived in and considered those people his close friends who welcomed him as family. Wade loved searching for the best places to eat, going to the latest movies, being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, listening to R & B music, exercising and going for walks.

Wade loved the Lord and spent many hours reading his Bible and meditating on God’s word. He lead a quiet life and lived one day at a time.

Wade is survived by his biological mother Doris Oliver, daughters Jeanine Warwick Dartmouth, Chimera, Charita and Naomi Downey all of Halifax. Adopted Sister Sharon (Dave) Boudreau NB and nephews Joel and Jamie Boudreau (who held a very special place in his heart). Wade was fortunate to meet most of his biological siblings over the years; brothers Tony Oliver Toronto, Terry Oliver Halifax and Jeffrey Oliver Montreal. Sisters Tanya ,Tracey & Cindy Oliver all residing in Montreal. He is predeceased by his parents William and Ruth Downey and brothers Kenny Oliver and David Duchesne.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax on Sunday June 25 from 5pm-8pm. A private family burial to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society.
