     Wally was a wonderful friend, kind and gentle, with a good sense of humour.  
     We recall fondly our visit to Wally and Barb at their home in Ajijic, Mexico, where we were introduced to the local culture.
     We also remember our frequent and enjoyable coffee dates at the Second Cup in Halifax!
     Wally will be sorely missed.  Our love goes out to Barb and family.

It was a great shock to get the news that Wally Mills had passed away on April 21st 2023. Wally was a very active member of the Saint Mary's University Retirees Association (SMURA) and his absence from future SMURA activities will be sorely felt. Wally was a valued colleague of mine and many other former SMU Faculty members. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his wife, Barbara, and members of her family, sons, grandsons.

In the later 1980's, Dr. Fred Young gathered musicians, singers, and friends to perform Handel's opera, Rinaldo. The two costumed and distinguished-looking narrators were the late George "Burpee" Hallett and the now-late Wally Mills. Normally, one saw both gents in the classroom environment, but for this occasion, they were Eighteenth-Century costumed dignitaries who took great pleasure in  laying out the plot and introducing sundry arias. Who knew academics could have so much fun?  Yes, that's over thirty years ago, but the warm memory lingers.

I have heard of the passing of my Uncle Wallace, and wanted to offer condolences to those close to him now. Though we lived in different parts of the country, so I rarely saw him, I have a wonderful memory of introducing to him my elder son, Jeffrey, when he was a babe in arms. 
Because of Uncle Wally's time in South Africa, even as a young girl I was aware of conditions there during the apartheid period. I carried him with me in my thoughts when I had the opportunity to visit that country eight years ago. 
I have thought of him too, when I and my spouse have stayed in the Saint Mary's residence during visits to Halifax. 
I have always thought of him as a gentle kind man. I was sorry to hear of his passing last week. 
May memories bring comfort in time to come.
