
Wally was born in Mahone Bay, N.S. to the late William R. Zwicker and Joy (Joudrey)(Zwicker) Coombs. Wally is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Ryan-Zwicker; Son, Dennis, daughter-in-law, Suzanne and grandchildren, Matthew and Robyn Zwicker, Halifax; daughter, Jill, son-in-law, John DeSmit, grandchildren Alexandra Zwicker DeSmit and Jesse DeSmit, Welland, Ontario.
Wally retired in 2002 from the Bank of Montreal after 42 years of service. His career with the Bank took him to Mahone Bay, Riverport, Quinpool Rd., Halifax, Sydney, Canso, Saint John, N.B., Spryfield, Quinpool Rd. and Halifax Main Office. Wally was a member of the Lions Club for 20 years and a past member of Armdale Yacht Club, where he held the positions of Treasurer and Vice-Commodore, and the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. He also held the position of Treasurer for St. Augustine’s Anglican Church for many years.
Wally was an avid sailor spending most of his free time sailing around the waters of Mahone Bay on his sailboat “Salty Dog”, or on calmer days his powerboat “Salty Pup”.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, N.S. on Friday November 5th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
A Eucharistic Service to celebrate Wally’s life will be held at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, 290 Purcell’s Cove Rd., Halifax, N.S. on Saturday, November 6th at 2 pm with Father John O. Scott Presiding. Interment will be in the Church’s Columbarium at the close of the service. Reception will follow in the church hall.
