Weldon Douglas Coleman

COLEMAN, Weldon Douglas (Bub) – 84, passed away on September 2, 2010 after a long illness with Parkinson’s and Diabetes. Born on December 1, 1925, he was the youngest son of the late Cyril and Katherine Coleman. Weldon was a Chartered Accountant and past President of the Institute of CA’s of Nova Scotia, and also worked with Crowell Balcom, a Chartered Accountant firm early in his career. He was a director and Treasurer of the Halifax Herald Ltd. for many years, retiring in 1985, and also a former director and one of the past owners of CHNS in Halifax. Weldon was a former past President of Ashburn Golf Club and member for many years, also an honorary life member of Maritime Seniors Golf Association. He had been a warden of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, former President of St. Paul’s Home for Girls, a member of Rotary Club of Halifax, Saraguay, Waegwoltic and Halifax Club, and was associated with many other organizations over the years. Weldon was a loving husband and father, a man of integrity and great wit. Weldon and his wife Shirley enjoyed wintering in Florida for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years (Shirley) and by sons Peter (Francine), Lake Echo, Robert (Sally) Bridgewater, and Michael (Florida), and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Kenneth. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Wednesday, September 8th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. There will be no memorial service. A private family committal service will be held at St. John’s Columbarium at a later date.
