WILLIAM A.CONRAD "Bill" – age 86, passed away peacefully December 7th, 2017, in the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital, Halifax. He was born November 15, 1931, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to the late Kenneth and Stella Conrad.
A veteran of The Royal Canadian Navy, the Korean War and Canadian peacekeeping efforts in Egypt, Dad received the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal for his international peacekeeping missions abroad. Dad enjoyed success and fulfilment in all his endeavors over the years.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from him during his 86 years of wisdom, among them: “Don’t wait, just go for it” and “enjoy lobster, clams and a cold beer whenever possible”. Words cannot express his exuberance and love of life. Dad was a caring, impulsive, passionate man known to dance a spontaneous jig if he caught wind of a familiar tune and loved to be a snowbird in Vero Beach, Florida for over 20 years, thereby creating a community of now over 30 Nova Scotians who frequent Vero because of his love and energy of the community.
At his 64th wedding anniversary gathering, Mugga turned to his great grandson and said, “If I don’t see you again, look up to the sky - I’ll be there.” The family asks that you spend time with your children & loved ones, raise a glass and make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. That is what Dad would wish for everyone.
Bill is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Barbara (nee Mahar), his children, Jack (Wendy), Patsy (Larry), Susan (Steven), Tom (Alice) and Vicki (Mark). Dad was known as Mugga to the joys of his life, his grandchildren; Tracy (Jordan), Daniel(Laura), Jacquelyn (Melvin), Stephanie (Brad), Dominic and Jared and his great grandchildren, Chloe, Rylan, Addison, Carter, Enzo and Laurenn. Bill was the last surviving member of his family of 9 sisters and 1 brother.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 from 6-8 pm with a Celebration of Life on Thursday, December 14th at 11:00am both at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to QEII Foundation in recognition of the continuous care of our father.
