FIANDER, William Bruce “Billy” - 64, Halifax passed away peacefully on July 5, 2011 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Yvonne Fiander (Bragg). He is also predeceased by his brother Donald. He was retired from Dept of Fisheries and Oceans for the past 17 years. He also worked as pipe fitter for many years, tried his hand at being a cabinet maker, a fisherman and owned his own small business. His sarcastic wit and smile will be sadly missed by his daughter Lisa (Mike Brown). Taken too soon, he was just getting to know his grandson Carter. He is also survived by his former wife, Judy Fiander, brothers: Cory, Gordon, Gower, Melvin and sisters Paulette Parsons, Judy Dickinson, Bertha Fiander-Pooley, Valerie Skinner, Beverly Covey, Deanna Fiander, Leila Fiander and many nieces and nephews. He loved to laugh and was the eternal optimist up until the end; his bravery stronger than the disease. Billy was happiest being on the water or spending time with friends. During his illness he was overwhelmed with the love of family and passed at peace with his life. Special thanks to his best friend Greg Smith who cared for him and helped him make the most of his last days. Sincerest gratitude is extended to the angels of the VG 7A Palliative Care Unit. Cremation has taken place and at his request, neither visitation nor a public funeral will be held. Donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation.
