Hap was well known in the Athletic Community of Halifax and surrounding areas. He spent most of his life playing hockey, baseball, and golf. Some of his achievements include, scoring 11 goals in one game (Yes, 11!), pitching two no hitters in baseball and getting a hole in one at Ashburn, not once but twice!
Hap played in the NS Seniors Hockey League and he would often mention that coaching the East Hants Penguins was one of the highlights of his career, he encouraged others to cherish and never forget those great times.
He was a supply manager of DSS for 40 years. In his spare time he was a member of the Halifax Forum Commission Board as well as on the Brightwood and Ashburn Golf Course committees.
The real love of his life was his beloved wife of over 60 years, Maureen. They met in Grade 8 and he enjoyed telling people of their many memories of their cherished life together. They loved travelling in their retirement and thoroughly enjoyed their social life with an abundance of friends.
Hap was predeceased by his wife Maureen; sisters, Carol Anne, Arlene, Patsy and Ann. He is survived by his sons, Bill (Mary) and Paul (Pam); sisters, Judy, Mary (Steve), Maureen, Geraldine (Jeff), Lorraine (Chuck), Margie (Steve), Beverly (Clement), and Marion; brothers, Harold (Linda) and Danny (Shalene); grandchildren, Ross (Emily), Cochran, AB, Marla (Travis), Nolan (Chloe), Rick (LeeAnne), Kyle; great grandchildren, Drew, Archie, Van and Carter; as well as many nieces and nephews.
