

LEMON, William R. “Bill” – 97 of Melville Heights, Halifax, passed away in the Halifax Infirmary on December 14th, 2010 after a short illness. Bill was born in Toronto on February 17, 1913 and joined the Robert Simpson Company Limited there in 1929. In 1940 he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with the Postal Corps in England, Holland, Belgium, and France returning to his beloved Mary Brown, whom he married in January 1946. He continued to work for Simpsons transferring to Halifax in 1962. He and Mary were very active in Bethany United Church. He will be remembered as a loving and caring father and grandfather. Bill was predeceased by Mary in 2001. He is survived by his son David and his wife Patricia Whitman (Halifax), and his daughter, Mary Jane and her husband Howard Price (Stoney Creek, Ont.) and Mary Jane’s children Sam Davis (Halifax), Ehren Davis, and Rebecca Battaglia-Hanlon (Halifax), Sarah Davis (Ottawa) and Nick Davis and his wife Dawna (Montreal). The family extends thanks to the staff of Melville Heights and very special appreciation to Penny MacKay and Linda Sullivan for their caring assistance. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 17th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral service will be held at Bethany United Church on Saturday, December 18th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Snyder officiating. Interment at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton St., Halifax NS B3L 3Y8 or a charity of your choice.
