

Bill passed away peacefully September 3, 2015 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late Walter M. Piers and Marjory (Veniot), Bill was proud to be a member of one of the founding families of Halifax, where he was born, grew up and eventually married and had a family. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Carmen (Chiasson); son, Geoffrey (Jill Bradbury Piers); daughter, Stephanie (Karl Power); grandson, John Piers; sister, Averill Baker (George); brother, James Piers, and many family and friends. Bill was Branch Manager of Superior Business Machines for 23 years. A Life-long,and enthusiastic Montreal Canadians fan, Bill never missed an opportunity to watch a game. A fan of sports cars and racing, Bill was one of the founding members of the Atlantic Sports Car Club. He could be seen racing his silver Z28 Camero and took part in many other club activities. An avid fisherman and fan of preserving wildlife and nature, Bill joined The Halifax Wildlife Association and remained an active member and director throughout his life. Bill was a member, Director and Vice President of the Northwest Arm Heritage Association, where he played an important role in Deadman's Island being designated a heritage site. Beloved father and husband, Bill will be missed dearly. "Although you are gone you will never be forgotten. Our life on this earth together, for now it's all done. But each day we will see you in the rising sun. We love you and miss you till the day we meet again."
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at: J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Halifax on Monday September 7 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Memorial service will be held at 2:30pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday September 8 with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Hope for Wildlife or a charity of your choice.
