On Wednesday December 21, 2022 William John Promaine of Ingramport, Nova Scotia passed away due to complications arising from a 5 year battle with multiple myeloma. His cancer did not define his life. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Bill managed his illness with strength, courage and incredible grace. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family, his greatest joy and biggest accomplishment.
Bill had a wonderful, full life of adventure . He was a retired RCMP officer, a CSIS “classified”, ghost car driving, beard growing, an “I can’t talk about my job” operative and finally Security Chief at Saint Mary’s University. At age 60 he retired once again to travel and see the world with his beautiful wife Sharon.
In addition to being a husband, he was a father, a brother, a father in law, a brother in law, a “Grampy”, an Uncle, a great Uncle, a cousin, a foodie, an animal lover, sports fan, music lover, forever a story teller, a gourmet chef, a fisherman, a boat enthusiast, a golfer and most of all, a friend to so so many people around the world.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Sharon (McGrath) Ingramport, NS. Daughters Michelle Lee (Adam) Waverley NS, and Kelley Lyn (Gerald) Hatchett Lake NS, brother Robert/ Bob (Janice) Ontario and his 5 grandsons. His “boys”. Austin, Hunter (Andrea), Brady(Abbie) Logan and Curtis. He was also a very proud pet Daddy to his little pet fish Wally who gave him so much joy this last year. He is survived by countless family members, cousins, brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews and friends who became family all with whom he shared so many laughs, life experiences and memories with. He is pre deceased by both his mother Bernice (Walker) and father Alexander Promaine, Ontario.
Special thank you to Dr Robinson, Hematology and the incredible care he received from all the nurses on 8A; (VG) before, during and after his transition home. He said he felt like a “King” under all your care. Both day and night, your conversations and all your support and attention to him were so appreciated.
Per Bill’s wishes and his wish for everyone to be safe and healthy, there will be no public service. Cremation followed by an Oceanside send off will be at a later date when the air is warm and the sun is shining once again on our very heavy hearts.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Feed Nova Scotia, the Cancer society, the MS Society, the SPCA or any other charity of your choice.
We mourn with you all but Dad truly wanted us to celebrate his life and his life with all of you. So per his request, eat a lobster, barbecue a steak, drink a cold beer and have a glass of red wine or your fanciest dark rum and cheers to him. Cheers to Bill for sharing his life with us. As Dad would say “Hey. When you got it, you got it.”
