He will be profoundly missed by the love of his life of 44 years, Sharon and his children Shelby (Jeremy) and Justin.
He is survived by his mother Alma Westhaver, brother Wayne (Pam) Westhaver, sisters Dianne (Gerard) LeBlanc, Bonnie (Phillip) Sprague, Shirley Ossinger, Pamela (Gary) Wamboldt, Rosemary Westhaver, Nora (Ronnie) Fancy, Uncle Lawrence Westhaver, Aunt Besty Lyle as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Dennis Westhaver and his brother Brian Farmer.
For 44 years he worked for, then owned Bathtub King (Halifax) Ltd. Together with his wife they built a successful company focused on customer service, backed by Bill’s knowledge and expertise. He was the best bathtub refinisher in the province.
Bill was born and raised in Liverpool, Nova Scotia to Alma and Dennis Westhaver, before moving to Halifax where he met the love of his life, Sharon. The two moved to their first home in Timberlea where they had two beautiful children, Shelby and Justin. From Timberlea they moved to Prospect Bay where they spent many years enjoying the life they built together.
One of Bill’s many passions was working on motor vehicles, such as a boat that he purchased and restored. He was also an expert at car restorations and repairs and was frequently sought after for his incredible work. He completely restored a number of antique automobiles over the course of his life. Most summer weekends included picking a vehicle they were going to take on their Sunday cruise. Bill was happy to be chauffeured and Sharon loved being in the driver’s seat. Bill’s love for cars included watching racing, especially NASCAR.
Other passions in Bill’s life included his love of music. His father, Denny Westhaver was a well-known fiddler and guitar player, and Bill, at the age of 64, had recently taken up learning to play the fiddle as his most recent project. Always having been musically inclined, Bill had many friends that he enjoyed playing music with. He would also frequently play the guitar or fiddle in the kitchen while Sharon was cooking supper. She loved being serenaded as she cooked.
Bill was fiercely loyal to his family and friends and was always there to lend a helping hand if someone needed it. He was loved by many, many friends and cherished by loving family. No words could ever describe the depth of loneliness and sorrow his absence brings. He will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends, and the eyes of his children.
A memorial service and reception celebrating Bill’s exceptional life will be held at JA Snow’s Funeral home located at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Friday, March 6th at 10:00am.
