

He grew up in Ketch Harbour where he dedicated many years to volunteering with the fire department, youth sports, Big Brothers, and many community events too numerous to mention.
He was a 28 year veteran of DND Fire Department. After retiring he worked at the pleasure of the Lieutenant Governor until 2013. His love of family was paramount. Every day of his life was dedicated to them. His grand girls were especially important. His second love was nature – hunting and fishing were his main interests. He fought the good fight with his illness to the very end. His love of life, his laughter, and kindness will be forever remembered.
Survived by his wife, Joanne (Walton); daughter, Paula Winters; son, Matthew, Portuguese Cove; sister, Colleen McAvoy (Ross); brother, Doug (Nancy), Dennis (Annette); grand girls, Abbie, Katie, Sam, and Andi. Predeceased by his infant grandson, Ben.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (902-455-0531) on Friday, November 6 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ketch Harbour, on Saturday, November 7, at 11:00 am. Father Alfred Eshun officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ketch Harbour. Family flowers only. Donations to a children's charity of your choice.
