Harold Lee Blair was born August 2, 1919 to Roy and Lillie Blair the 5th child of 7, in Wall, Tx, Tom Green County. He passed peacefully in his home on December 18, 2012 after suffering complications of a broken hip. He was 93.
Harold met the only love of his life, Ida Puckett, daughter of William Bonnie and Gertrude Puckett. They led a varied and unique life together, from the oil fields of east New Mexico and west Texas finally to the lush hills of Hamilton county in 1966 where they raised their 2 sons, took over the operation of the Puckett’s farm and ranch, raising Angus cattle and farming. Many nights remembered where either Ida or Harold, sometimes both, plowing some field or checking the cattle. They opened Sears Roebuck catalogue store. Many, young and old remember them at the Jack-N-Jill donut shop, also, Blair’s Feed and Seed over where the Henhouse is. Retired a couple of years, then Harold, always the innovator, already re-inventing himself over and over, learned cobbling. After the daily trips to town and the long hours that come with owning a business became too much on Ida, he moved the business 6 miles out of town to his home to be by her. After 60 years together, Ida passed away on December 31, 2007. Two years later he reopened the boot shop at the age of 89. He is missed by many a boot and boot wearer, not forgetting Ida’s skill on the repairing purses and sundries.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Evelyn Coor, who moved to Hamilton to be next to her favorite brother, Hazel Middlebrook and Natalie Massey his most recent loss in the siblings. Also, two brothers, Garth Blair, the one lost to childhood illness, and Roy Blair formerly of California.
He is survived by the remaining sister, Wanda Henderson of Brownwood, two sons, Steve Blair and Ronnie Blair of Hamilton, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and blessed by many close family members and friends.
