

Jimmy was born in Walnut Springs, Texas and raised in Dublin, Texas, and graduated from Dublin High School in 1961. He married the love of his life, Doris Wier Moncrief, on June 25, 1962, beginning a marriage filled with love, faith, and devotion. Jimmy and Doris moved to Hamilton, Texas in 1964, where they built a life centered around family, hard work, and service to others.
Jimmy pursued a career in the restaurant business, one of his many talents, and served as a restaurant manager at The Spotted Horse for several years, where he proudly served many people, including soldiers. In later years, Jimmy owned his own business in painting and home remodeling, working faithfully for many years. He and Doris also worked for several years at the Methodist Boys Ranch in Waco, where Jimmy touched countless lives—an impact that continues today. After working at the Boys Ranch, Jimmy retired from painting and home remodeling.
Jimmy had a deep love for staying active and spent many hours at the Hamilton Fitness Center, where he was known and loved by many who saw him there daily
. He also volunteered faithfully at the United Care Food Pantry in Hamilton, Texas, continuing his lifelong dedication to serving others.
A man of strong faith, Jimmy was an active member of The Barn Church in Hamilton. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Pawpaw, and a friend to many. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing he is now pain free and at peace.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Doris Wier Moncrief; his daughters Rhonda Sleeper and husband Eddie, Robin Shockley and husband Cody, and Dana DeLeon and husband Henry; and grandchildren Summer Redwine, Samantha Galindo, Shad Sleeper, Brittaney Boatwright, Savannah Sleeper, Blake Whitehead, Danielle DeLeon, Todd Whitehead, and Camri James, Dessa Sleeper, Bessie Sleeper, Sage Sleeper, and Shandlor Sleeper. He is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by his sister, Betty Cheatwood and husband Perian of Crowley, Texas; brother Travis Moncrief and wife Carolyn of Granbury, Texas; his longtime childhood friend, James Gilbert and wife Gladys; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bessie Moncrief, and six brothers and three sisters.
Jimmy was a beloved husband, dad, and Pawpaw, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Riley Funeral Home Inc., located at 402 West Main, Hamilton, TX 76531, on January 14, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at the same location on January 15, 2026, at 11:00 am.
