

Paul Alton Winn, Jr. passed away on September 24, 2011 in Hamilton, Texas after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born on July 24, 1936 to Paul Winn, Sr. and Edna Graves Winn in Temple, Texas. Paul was a lifelong resident of Hamilton, Texas and a direct descendant of the 1856 founder of Gentry’s Mill, Browder Gentry, his great-great grandfather, and Francis Marion Graves, a developer of Hamilton, his great grandfather.
Paul attended public schools in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1954. He attended Texas A&M and completed his undergraduate degree at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, now Texas State University. Paul’s career included teaching positions in Pearsall and Killeen. He returned to Hamilton to join his father in the Buick Dealership which they owned. He later worked at the Hamilton National Bank as an officer. He returned to teaching, his true love, in 1982 by joining the Windham School District, teaching and counseling at the Gatesville facilities. He completed his Master’s degree in counseling to better serve his students. Paul retired in 2004 after completing 27 years of service in education.
Paul was a community leader in Hamilton, serving on the school board for nine years. He was recognized by the Rock House Masonic Lodge in 2009 for 50 years of membership and service as Past Master. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served in many leadership positions. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Perry Country Club. He was highly respected and had many friends who will miss him greatly.
Paul enjoyed reading good books, listening and dancing to the music of the 50’s and watching western movies. He also loved to travel with friends to New Mexico and Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. J. B. Winn, Sr. and Mrs. J. B. Winn and William S. and Etta Perry Graves, and his parents Paul A. and Edna Graves Winn.
Survivors include his loyal and devoted wife of 52 years, Evelyn; a son Chris and his wife Nytzia and daughters Azereth and Gracia of Austin; a daughter Paula Faust; a grandson Jamie Faust; cousins Marion Graves Locke, Margaret Ann Ashcraft, and Fred Davidson of Austin and Hugh Winn of Sun City; and a host of friends and admirers.
Memorials may be given to Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary, the First United Methodist Church of Hamilton, or Hospice.
