

Deloris spent her childhood and received her elementary education in both Merced and Los Angeles, California. She was raised by her mother, Josephine, her grandmother, Katie Green and her aunt, Maxine Osborne. She graduated from Fremont High School in Los Angeles.
Deloris went on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Long Beach and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from University of La Verne.
Deloris had a fulfilling career throughout the Los Angeles Community College System with roles ranging from an Instructor, Counselor, Vice President, and President.
Deloris was blessed with her daughter, Sasani Eugenia Powell in 1964. In 1986, Sasani bore a lovely daughter, Chanel Rene Scott. Deloris spent 20 years with John Gilbert, her devoted and loving companion. Together they had many fulfilling years raising Chanel until John preceded Deloris in death in 1998. Throughout the rest of her life, Deloris took great pride in supporting Chanel in all her endeavors.
Deloris is remembered for her love of family, lively spirited nature, professionalism, independence, fondness for travel and readiness to always dance like no one was watching.
Deloris’s memories are cherished by her daughter, Chanel Scott, brother Al Lee (Mary), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.
