Mary Catherine Seville fulfilled a lifelong dream and went to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 25, 2018. She was the eldest child born to John and Lucille Rogero on September 21, 1931 in Saint Augustine, Fl. She grew up on a farm in nearby Elkton.
She met a sailor on shore leave from Nevada named John Richard Seville and they were married in 1953. Together they raised 6 children, Rose Ann, Richard Keith, Diane Maria, Michael Joseph, Gerald Kelly, and Mark Patrick. They lived in Florida and Nevada before settling in Apple Valley and Hesperia, Ca. in the early sixties.
Both Mary and her husband worked for Stoddard Jess at Jess Ranch in Apple Valley, and this is where her career with the USDA began. She was an egg grader and later an Egg and Poultry Inspector for the USDA for 24 years. She retired from government service in 1994 with numerous commendations.
Mary was a faithful servant of Our Lord as a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Hesperia, where she also taught first grade Catechism and was a choir leader. As a testament to her faith and humility, she also took it upon herself to spend countless hours in service to the church. She was especially fond of Father O’Day, and he of her, and never failed to accomplish any task he asked of her. They were great friends.
Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 42 years, her beloved brother John Patrick Rogero, and her great friend and confidant Helen Herchelroath. She is survived by her 6 children, sisters Joan East and Ione Walker of Florida, 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren (with one due October 2018), one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.
Services will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hesperia. Reception immediately following in Parish Hall. Anyone who knew Mary is encouraged to attend. We respectfully request donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
Mary was loved by all who knew her, and she never failed to see the good in everyone. We will all remember her infectious smile and her absolute, unshakable faith in Our Lord. Whenever we were troubled, she always told us the same thing: pray. And it always worked. While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice that she now walks with Jesus.
