Our beloved mother Beatrice Friedman Oshinsky passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 5, 2021, just five weeks shy of her hundredth birthday. A native New Yorker, she was raised in Brooklyn by her mother, Dinah, her sister, Esther, and her brother, Martin, after her father, Isaac, died when she was still a child. She struggled with her family through the Great Depression and worked as a volunteer nurse’s aide in Kings County Hospital during World War II. After the war, she met and married her beloved husband, Alex, had two daughters, Eileen and Amy, and moved to Bayswater in Far Rockaway. There she was actively involved at the Bayswater Jewish Center, volunteering her time in many activities, tutoring Russian immigrants in English, and even performing in musical productions. In addition, she worked as a bookkeeper at a local special needs school and a home oil company. She is survived by her daughters Amy and Eileen, her son-in-law David Wanzer, her niece Barbara Weisen, and Barbara’s children, Daniel and Carly. We will miss her and love her forever. Donations in her memory can be made to the Hatzalah Ambulance Service of the Rockaways & Nassau County, 621 Beach 9th Street, Far Rockaway, NY 11691, https://www.rayze.it/hatzalahrl/, which was so wonderful to our mother on many occasions, or to the Bayswater Jewish Center, 2355 Healy Avenue, Far Rockaway, NY 11691.
