     Saba and I met in Feb. 1961 when we both began our teaching careers at New Utrecht High School.  That meeting was the beginning of a friendship that lasted until Saba’s death, 61 years later.  Saba was a good teacher loved by her students.
    She was a beautiful woman with a flair for style.  She had a terrific sense of fashion both in dress and home decoration.  Saba could look at a sheet of wallpaper and envision how it would function on a wall.
   She was also a kind and generous person always willing to share.
I recall that Saba owned a beautiful and unique turquoise necklace.  When I mentioned, in passing, that I needed a necklace to wear at my daughter, Naomi’s rehearsal dinner, she insisted I borrow hers.  I did and it was a big hit.
    We shared many simchas including Jeffrey’s bris, bar mitzvah, his wedding, and then his children’s celebrations.  We also shared the sad times when Saba Sat shiva first for her mother and then her father.
    She was a woman who, in her quiet way, made a big statement.  I loved who she was and valued our friendship.
