

Alvin is the loving husband to Betty Riddle; beloved father to Rhonda (Ralph) Stone, Roslynn Riddle and the late Stephen Paul Riddle; proud grandfather to Anthony (Aquilla) Riddle, Sha’Kena (Dwayne) Mckinley, Kenneth Riddle, Tye Riddle, Imoni Riddle, Elisha Amey, Darryl Riddle, Darrion Riddle, Destinie Riddle, Stephen Riddle II, Tahirah Anderson, Surijah Riddle, Urijah Young, Ariaye Riddle, Násir Riddle; great-grandfather to JaSonni Riddle, Aria Riddle, Dwayne Mckinley Jr., Kassidy Mckinley, Anthony Springfield Jr., Ava Riddle and Kenadi Riddle. Devoted friend Edward D. Samuels; special sister-in-law/friend Sharon Grimes Ndem; cherished brother to the late Robert, Nelson Jr., and John Riddle, the late Rosalie McReynolds, the late Elizabeth Biddings, the late Lucille Riddle, Earline Griffin, Catherine Riddle and Mary Chavis; Uncle to many nephews and nieces; and “Cuz” too numerous to name to others.
Alvin was born in and a life-long resident of East Chicago to Emma West and Nelson Riddle of Mississippi. He graduated from Washington High School in East Chicago. After graduation he worked at Inland Steel Mill for 9 years before continuing his education at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana, in law enforcement.
He honorably served in the United States Army. He entered the East Chicago Police Department, retiring after 30 years. He then worked for 10 years with the East Chicago School System. He was appointed Assistant Street Commissioner for the City of
East Chicago and served on the Board of Human Rights Commission. Alvin finished his career working for the Lake County Sheriff's office.
In Mr. Riddle’s spare time his hobby was “people”. He loved interacting with the residents of E.C., sharing and celebrating events with everyone he knew. People knew they could call on him when needing help. Alvin took great pride in being an advocate for people as he supported political candidates who were running for leadership positions. He was a member and supporter of St. Patrick’s Church for over 45 years.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church (3802 Grand Blvd; East Chicago, IN 46312). He will be laid to rest in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery of Elwood, Illinois.
