Amelia Velasquez “Blackie” nee Espitia age 87 of Gary, IN passed away October 14,2012, she is survived by six children John (Rena) Velasquez, Mario Martinez, Rita (Domas) Sanchez, Manuel Velasquez, Martin Velasquez, Veronica Franco, 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, one sister Marie Tienda,; preceded in death by her husband Jesus, parents, one daughter Aurora Torrez ,grandson Christopher Torrez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday October 18, 2012 DIRECTLY at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Rev. Mick Kopil officiating, burial Ridgelawn Cemetery, friends may visit with the family on Wednesday October 17, 2012; from 3 to 8 pm(with a 5 PM vigil services)at Kuiper Funeral Home 9039 Kleinman Rd( two blocks south of Ridge Rd) Highland, IN. Amelia was born and raised in Harbor, in her younger years she loved to dance, in her later years she enjoyed playing cards.
