

Elaine Mallett (nee Poppen), 93, of Winfield, formerly of Highland, went to heaven Monday, Aug. 3, 2015. She is survived by three children: Dale (Anne) Mallett of Valparaiso, Peggy (Larry) Koczur of Lowell and Kent (Linda) Mallett of Newark, OH; ten grandchildren: Heather Hite, Eric (Julie) Widstrand, Mark (Carie) Widstrand, Julie (Mike) Knazur, Scott Talbot, Dolly (Steve) Osborne, Lori (Scott) Mehalko, Laurel (Steve) Boso, Drew (Lea) Mallett and Ashley Mallett; nineteen great grandchildren; brother Lloyd (Jean) Poppen; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mallett was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Roy Mallett; daughter Joan Talbot; sister Thelma Pevoto; and brother Norbert Poppen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3025 Highway Ave., Highland, IN with Rev. Edward Moszur officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary. Friends are invited to meet with the family Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland. Elaine a devout Catholic all her life, enjoyed family gatherings, playing the piano and organ, bowling and playing pinochle. She taught and organized first-grade religion at Our Lady of Grace Church in Highland, had been a member of Highland Senior Citizens and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader. She graduated from Hammond Clark High School, in 1940, and attended Hammond Business College.
