

Harry W. Gilbert, age 93, passed away peacefully in Florida at Hope Hospice Joann's Place of Bonita Springs on August 31, 2022. Followed by his loving wife, Lora M. Gilbert, age 92, at the Terraces at Bonita Springs in Florida on September 2, 2022.
Harry was born on September 20, 1928, in South Bend, Indiana and Lora was born on February 17, 1930, in Whiting, Indiana. They married on March 8, 1947 and spent 75 happy years together.
They are survived by sons Bradley (Margaret) Gilbert of Lockport, Illinois, and Thomas (Camille) Gilbert of Arlington, Texas. Grandparents of Alisa (Dan) Costion, Crystal Gilbert, Matthew (Ana) Gilbert, Eric (Carol) Gilbert, and Nathan (Jessica) Gilbert, 7 Great-Grandchildren and two Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Gilbert. Parents, Thomas and Marie Gilbert, and Howard and Iva Milligan. Siblings Marilyn Riley, Bill Milligan and Anita VanVleet.
Harry and Lora were continually faithful to their God, to their church, to their family and to each other. They attended the Church of the Nazarene in Highland, IN, Joliet, IL, New Lenox, IL, Effingham, IL, and Fort Myers, FL. Wherever they lived they served the Lord as Sunday school teachers, board members, choir members, and missionaries in Africa and South America.
When Harry graduated high school, he started work at Illinois Bell and advanced to retire as a Design Engineer. Lora became a teacher and continued with her studies and graduated from Olivet Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Science in 1966 and a Master of Arts in 1971. They retired and moved to Effingham, IL, where they enjoyed inviting family members to their lake house for get togethers. They were invited to do Missionary work at the African Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya. Lora taught and worked on setting up a library. Harry developed a computer lab and with son Brad installed the telephone system at the university campus. They spent two years in Africa and when their work was completed, they went to the Brazil Nazarene College in South America with their son Brad to install a telephone system for them also.
Harry and Lora loved to travel and go on cruises spending time in Russia, China, Australia, England, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Africa, South America, Alaska, Hawaii, and most of the United States.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 11AM at Kuiper Funeral Home - 9039 Kleinman Rd. Highland, IN 46322. Their final resting place will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
