

Born on March 31, 1947, in Fordsville, KY, James lived a life defined by courage, loyalty, and love for his family. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, James served honorably as a Sergeant with the 26th Marines during the Vietnam War. His bravery earned him several medals, including the Purple Heart and Silver Star. His service and sacrifice reflected the strength and integrity that guided him throughout his life.
James was known for his love of John Wayne and classic westerns, and he had a lifelong passion for vintage cars and trucks. He enjoyed sharing stories, laughter, and his deep sense of humor with everyone around him.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Pamela Ross and Carla Asher; his mother, Henrietta Phillips; and his father, William Bellamy.
He shared a special bond with his brother, Dale (Jennifer) Bellamy, with whom he lived; and was a caring and devoted uncle to Laura (Tom) Carey and Alicia Bellamy.
James is survived by his children to whom he was a wonderful and loving father, James “Jimmy” (Tee) Bellamy, Jennifer Packard, Jamie Lynn Doss, Julie Bellamy, Jason Bellamy, and Jonathan Bellamy; as well as sixteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Robbie Spielman; brothers, Terry (Sandy) Bellamy, Roy (Lisa) Phillips, and Garry Bellamy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His warmth, generosity, and love for family will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Wounded Warrior Project.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, located at 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. James will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
