Kathy Schwertfeger

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Jeff Schwertfeger; four children, Debby McHenry of Las Vegas, Greg (Sylwia) McHenry of Las Vegas, Frank McHenry of Calumet City, IL, and Ellen McHenry of Branford, CT; four grandchildren, Magda (Steve) Alvarez, Stephin McHenry, Kira Kathleen, and Ela McHenry; great-grandson, Zion; brother, John Guth of Warsaw, IN; and her many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle Toni (Whennen) and James Lavan; and two sisters, Nancy Kilfoyle (Lavan) and Dorothy "Cookie" Snyder (Guth).

Born in Chicago on September 7, 1947, Kathy was 78.

Kathy was a bookkeeper for over 40 years, running a small business management and consulting company. She loved animals, camping, plants, holidays, and gatherings with family and friends. Her favorite times were spent at football or Nascar-watching parties with Jeff.

Kathy took a great pleasure in helping her loved ones. She was always available to give advice or lend some expertise for everything, ranging from professional business operations to how to sew a button back on a shirt. She was at her happiest being involved with helping someone out.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2025 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322, with a burial to follow at 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
