

He is survived by Mark Caffarini, his partner of 47 years, and his many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Somodi; his seven sisters, Julia (late Michael) Tothfalusi, Maria Somodi, Elizabeth (late James) Waller, Margaret (late Richard) Effler, Rita (late Charles) Barcus, Theresa Somodi, and Barbara Somodi; and six brothers, Louis, Frank, William (late Dolores), Joseph (late Donna), Arpad (late Carolyn), and Ronald Somodi.
Lawrence enlisted in the US Army on August 17, 1958 and served two years as a medic in Germany until July 26, 1960. Afterward, he attended Loyola University and received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He started his career in education at the Archdiocese of Chicago, and then later worked for the Chicago Public School System. After a brief hiatus, he started working for the department of mental health at the Elizabeth Ludeman Center, where he retired after 30 years.
Lawrence held a deep appreciation and love of the arts, classical music, and physical fitness. He enjoyed maintaining the many cars he owned over the years. He was a frequent traveler to Florida and considered Fort Myers Beach his second home. He was loved by his many nieces and nephews, whom he doted on. He loved to share with them the history of the Somodi family.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Avenue, Highland, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held DIRECTLY following the visitation at 10:30 am. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park IL, held privately at a later date.
