

Lorraine A. Homner (nee Verrill), 88 of Sarasota Florida; formerly of Schererville, Indiana died peacefully at her home in Sarasota while surrounded by her family. She was born in Hammond Indiana to Everett and Lucienna (Boucher) Verrill. Lorraine graduated from Hammond Technical High School in 1944. She worked for the draft board during WWII, where she met the love of her life, Andrew J. Homner, a Navy Veteran. They were married in California and remained married for 40 years until his death in 1985. She was a remarkable woman able to provide her children with unmatched care and love while maintaining her own career. Lorraine retired from the data processing department at Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana. Andrew and Lorraine began visiting Sarasota in 1974 and built their home in 1979. After retirement, she moved to Sarasota to enjoy the warmth and beauty of the community. Lorraine was active in retirement and loved traveling, seeing movies, and spending time with family. She is survived by her loving children: Sandra Hart of Albuquerque, NM, Andrew (Barbara) E. Homner of Sarasota, FL, Susan Edwards of Crown Point, IN, and Shelley (Dr. Robert) Cole-Cook of Lake Oswego, OR; wonderful brother Herbert Verrill of Hammond, Indiana; beloved grandchildren: Renee (Jeanette Holmes) Elinkowski, Ron (Kristin) Elinkowski, Rachelle (Michael) Kearns, Robby Cole, Blake Cole, Jessica (Dominic) Cribari, Kaitlyn (fiancé Alex Fickes) Edwards, Stephanie Edwards, and Ryan Edwards; dear great-grandchildren: Adam, Lexi, Anna, Ireland, Kylie, Dominic and baby Cribari on the way. She was also aunt to many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; her parents; brother, Harold Verrill and sister, Dorothy Walsh. A viewing will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, Indiana on Friday March 27th from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday March 28th with burial service at Concordia Cemetery in Hammond Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
