Marie May Drake, age 81, of Cedar Lake, IN passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Marie was born December 3, 1939 in Hazel Green, AL to the late Thomas and Flossie (Stevenson) Pearson. Marie was one of 10 children. At the age of 16, she moved to the Midwest with her twin sister, Rita. It was here that she made her roots.
Marie leaves behind her beloved sons, Mark (Catherine) Drake, Keith A. Drake; four grand daughters, Erin Drake, Amber Drake, Alisha Kirchenstein, Alyssa Drake; three great-grand daughters, Olivia, Honora, and Alanna; siblings, Peggy Allen, Rita Rosenthal, Walter Pearson, along with multiple loving nieces and nephews.
She is welcomed in to eternity by her husband, Curtis O'Connor Drake Jr.; parents, Thomas and Flossie Pearson; sisters, Pauline Wilkinson, Betty McGullian; and four brothers: Charles Pearson, Paul Pearson, Allen Pearson, and Joe Pearson.
Her family will always remember her fierce independence. After losing Curtis in 1984, she was determined to raise her two young children as a single mother. She will always be held in high regard from her two boys who feel that their mother showed them what motherhood was all about. She created a true foundation for them that they were able to carry with them through out their own lives. She did not complain and had an exceptional outlook on life. Marie loved being a mother.
In her earlier years, she liked to spend time with each and every one of her brothers and sisters. She would go out dancing as well as enjoy her morning coffee. She would sit in the window to watch the butterflies, birds, and the squirrels. Marie was truly loved by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She will be terribly missed.
A public visitation for Marie will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd., Highland, IN 46322. A funeral service with final prayers will occur Friday, April 9, 2021 at 9AM at the funeral home. Pastor Randy Harrison will be officiating.
