Richard Joseph “Moe” Murzyn, age 78 of Calumet Township, passed away peacefully Friday, January 3, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bell- Murzyn; daughters: Jeanine (David) Doescher of Munster and Teri (Nick) Yovkovich of Calumet Township; son, Richard (Lois) Murzyn of South Carolina; also survived by grandchildren: Jennifer (Gerald) Shipley of Munster, Jackie (fiance Patrick Flagg) Doescher, Lexi Yovkovich of Calumet Township, and step grandchildren: Jason and Jeremy Wu of South Carolina; three great grandchildren; brothers and sister: Frank (Judy) Murzyn of Whiting, Barbara (Robert) Punak of Crown Point, and Greg (Phyllis) Murzyn of St. John; many nieces, nephews, cousins and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents: Frank Murzyn and Ethel Gatackich. Richard was a proud Korean War veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving April 9, 1952 to December 2, 1954. Moe was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his canine companion, Diablo. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd. (two blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, IN. The Marine Corps League Howling Mad Detachment will hold services at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith, IN. Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Calumet City, IL following the Mass. Those who knew Moe knew that he lived life to the fullest and he will be missed by all.
