

Ronald J. Wagenblast, age 77, of Highland, IN went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 14, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene (nee Jakubowski); three daughters: Kathleen (Ben) Czarnecki of Wheeling, IL, Diane (Sam) Muskin of Crown Point, IN and Linda (Jim) Onohan of Merrillville, IN; ten grandchildren: Adam and Brian Czarnecki of Wheeling, IL, Zachary, Matthew and Christopher Muskin of Crown Point, IN; Sarah Onohan of Merrillville, IN, Stephen Onohan of Louisville, KY, Aaron (Ben Scott) Onohan of Valparaiso, IN, James (Jessica) Onohan of Schererville, IN and Julie Onohan of DeMotte, IN; two great-grandchildren: Eliana and Andriana of Schererville, IN; two brothers: Richard K. (Ethel) Wagenblast of St. Petersburg, FL and Jerry M. (Sharon) Wagenblast of Valparaiso, IN; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; Mr. Wagenblast was preceded in death by his parents: Calvin and Dorothy Wagenblast; and infant daughter, Patricia Lynn Wagenblast. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. DIRECTLY at St. James Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave., Highland, IN with Rev. Keith Virus officiating. Burial will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 P.M. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, (two blocks south of Ridge Road) Highland, IN. Mr. Wagenblast was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Highland. He was an associate professor of mathematics at Purdue University-Calumet Campus for 34 years and taught at his alma mater, Hammond High School from 1957 to 1964. Mr. Wagenblast was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and their families and delighted when they began showing him the places to catch the "big ones" and rejoiced when they out fished him and caught the bigger fish. Mr. Wagenblast enjoyed cards and board games with his friends and was highly competitive. Memorial contributions may be made in Ron's loving memory to Hospice of the Calumet Area, St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. James Church or a charity of your choice.
