Shirley Mae Flatt

Shirley is the loving mother to Steve Carlin, Curtis (Ann) Carlin, and George Leeth Sr., and the late James Carlin and special mother to Dustie Wilson; proud grandmother to Zacharie (Paola Cruz) Leeth, George (Gabriella Barry) Leeth Jr., Maverick Petrowsky, Shyanne Casper, Russell Meyer, Jessica (Max Samaniego) Meyer, Myx Khonsu, Christin Bonnett, and Raequinn Baldwin; great- grandmother to Zacharie Leeth Jr., Zoey Mae Leeth, Zachary Tobel, Kassidy Carpentier, Tenacey Hathaway, Christopher Telford, Addilyn Searls, Korie Searls, Adam Searls Jr., and Avery Cato. Devoted daughter to the late Lawrence and Goldie Zengler; cherished sister to the late Donald Zengler. She was also a dear friend to many, especially Ola, Layla and Harlan, Nancy, Diane, Reba, Rachel and Jessie.

Shirley was a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana and graduated from Hammond High School. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church and later at St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Valparaiso. She devoted her life to God and helping others. She never turned down an opportunity to help others. Her natural ability to help others was also seen as a caregiver with Companion Care. She was a leader for AWANA's and Girl Scouts. She also volunteered when her grandchildren were part of Hessville Little League, Hessville Babe Ruth and Hessville Vipers Football. She loved watching her son and grandchildren play sports and rarely missed a game.

Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of her funeral at 11:00 am at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (505 Bullseye Lake Rd, Valparaiso, IN 46383).
