Born on October 16, 1962, in Zeeland, MI, he was the last of four children born to Rev. Harry and Kathryn Arnold.
In 1970, the family moved to Lansing, IL, where Steve graduated from Illiana Christian High School. He completed his education at Michigan State University, earning a B.A. in Music Therapy, after which he pursued graduate studies in classical guitar at Northwestern University.
The main focus of his career became teaching English as a Second Language working for Nova (Yokohama Japan) for four years, then returning to Chicago to work at Intrax, Stafford House, and most recently, Kaplan International. Steve's life was enriched by the students he encountered, the languages and cultures he studied, and the many countries he visited. His creativity and engaging lessons were a hallmark of his teaching.
Surrounding everything was Steve's kind nature toward everyone he met. Even during his brief battle with cancer, he was touched by the concern of students, coworkers, and friends, commenting on the kind care he received at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
He is predeceased by his parents, aunts, uncles, several cousins, and nephew, Bradley Arnold. Thankful to share Steve's life are his siblings and their families:
REBECCA (late Robert) Furlong
THOMAS and Cathy Arnold; John and Jenny (Ella, Abigail, Olivia)
Christopher and Katherine (Theodore, Cameron)
SARAH and Robert; Kathryn, Jacob
Steve will be laid to rest in a private family service at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Celebrate Steve's life in your own way by doing a kindness or contributing to a charity of your choice.
