

Virgil L. Jean, age 83 of Hammond, IN, passed away January 3, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Denise; two sons: Scott Jean and Jeff Jean; special son, Terry (Bessie) Patrick; one granddaughter, Nicole Patrick; godmother, June Koch; godfather, Aldo May; best buddy, "Buddy"; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents: Homer and Stella Marie Jean; one brother, Homer; one sister, Millie Pinkston; and best friend, Dean Monk. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd. (two blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, IN with Rev. Joseph Murphy officiating. Burial at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Virgil was a 60 year member of Local 150 operating Engineers, where he held many offices in the local, retiring as financial secretary and a gold card member. He honorably serviced his country twice from 1946-1948 and the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952. He was a catcher in the Phillies Minor League from 1945-1946. He loved the Chicago White Sox and in 2010 he played fantasy baseball at the White Sox Camp and was M.V.P. of Team 4. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Veteran's Association.
