

“Ben” was born and raised in Taylorsville, North Carolina and was a graduate of Alexander County High School. He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. “Ben” graduated from Tennessee Tech with a Chemistry Degree. His first job was with DuPont Corporation and retired with over 35 years of service from W. R. Grace Chemical. “Ben” was a faithful and longtime member of Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved his church, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bettye M. Johnson.
“Ben” is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, William “Bill” (Carol) Johnson, Rossville, GA, and Greg (Joyce) Johnson of Hixson; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; siblings, Kathryn Bowman and Phil Johnson; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, December 30, and 10:30 am to 11:30 on Saturday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Services for “Ben” will follow at 11:30 am on Saturday at the North Chapel with Pastor Jim Buttram, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express their gratitude for your prayers, cards and visits, to Tina, and Sharon, and the staff at Soddy Daisy Healthcare, his special friends Faedra, Laura, the staff and nurses with Hospice of Chattanooga for their love and care given to “Ben”.
