Alan Wayne Newton, 54, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Alan was born in Washington, DC, on August 23, 1968, to Jill Helen (nee Richardson) and Charles Wayne Newton, of Cleveland County, NC. He joined the family following older brother Michael Ian Harpster, later joined by Krista Marie Wynn, of Birmingham, AL, his younger sister. This made Alan the middle child, always the social butterfly, always the peacekeeper, always the caregiver.
Alan’s stepfather, LTC Frank Wynn was transferred to Eglin AFB in north Florida. It is there where Alan met many lifelong friends. As a child of the 70s and a teen of the 80s, he found his own fun. He worked hard and played even harder. He loved partying with his friends and working on cars. His love of fuel and fast cars was shown in his Mustangs and his Harley Davidson.
Alan met his soul mate, Sonja Noel Adkins at Niceville High School. They married at 19 and moved the same day to Coral Springs, Florida to work side-by-side with his father Charlie and his cousin Danny Mauney. Charlie wasn’t an easy man to work for, but he bestowed on Alan the value of showing up early and doing a job right the first time. His relationship with Charlie grew over the years to having a mutual love and respect for their shared ability to fix anything or fix it to where no one could fix it. Neither of them was afraid to tackle any job. Together they shared a love of fast cars and tools. Alan lost his father to lung cancer in 2008. This left an empty space in his heart.
Alan and Noel lived 37 years together as best friends on a fun-filled roller coaster life, taking every opportunity to enjoy the high times and learn from the low times. They relocated from Florida to Colorado in 2018 and then to Tennessee in 2022. Together was their favorite place to be.
Together they had three sons, Robert Wayne Newton, Matthew Alan Newton, both of Chattanooga, TN, and Brian Charles Newton of Colorado Springs, CO. The boys have added their loves to our family, Holly Satterfield Newton, and grandson Roman Michael Newton, of Chattanooga, TN; Nancy Barker, of Colorado Springs, CO., and step-grandson Zeke Fuller, of Grand Forks, ND. Every dog loved Alan. Many furbabies shared their home over the years, all loved as children. Alan leaves behind Basset Hound Snoopy and Greyhound Lance, and several grand kitties.
Alan spent his life sharing his talents with others in the way of music and laughs. Alan learned to play the guitar at a young age. With an ear for music, he inherited from his grandfather, Big Band player and composer Sammy Richardson, he taught himself to play the harmonica and piano. His love of music crossed genres to include Miles Davis, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, and Iron Maiden.
Alan loved to perform, a talent he inherited from his grandmother, Rockette Sylvia Haines Richardson. Alan made people laugh in plays and improv comedy. He shared his witty sense of humor with anyone nearby. Alan’s sons all inherited his love of laugher and talent to recite the movie lines from any of his favorites.
Alan’s family will hold a private celebration of his life, with his final resting place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fallston, NC. He asks that all his family and friends reminisce among friends of fun memories together cherishing each other’s company as he cherished yours.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks for donations to Save The Underdogs Rescue of Mary Esther, Florida, at SaveUnderdogs.com
