Armour Russell Cagle (Shorty), 96, died November 17, 2017. He was loved immensely and will be missed deeply by his family. He never missed an opportunity to tell a great story. As a WWII veteran, he participated in the Normandy Invasion and received the Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and the European Theater Medals. He was retired from Brown Brothers after 35 years. He had previously owned Cagle Coal Company.
He is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 67 years, daughters, Joyce (Ron) Cope, Cheryl (Ken) Rice, Darlene (Bob) Doak and Sandra Cagle, son, Wayne (Brenda) Cagle, special grandson, Shawn Holbert, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, sisters, Janie Smith & Dorothy (Dot) Louallen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Lella Mae Keedy Cagle, brothers, Melvin, Arcie, twin brother Ob and A.D., sisters, Una Pursley, Villa Mae (Boots) Pursley and Thelma Cox.
A funeral service will be held at the Chattanooga Funeral Home - North Chapel on Tuesday, November 21, 10:30 am. There will be a private burial at the National Cemetery with military honors
