Betty Joyce Maddox Harris of Chattanooga passed away peacefully under hospice care on September 11, 2025. She was born on September 11, 1941 in Fyffe, Alabama to Alton and Alma Maddox. She lived the majority of her adult life on the lake in the Possum Creek neighborhood in the Soddy-Daisy area with her husband Frank, to whom she was married for more than 55 years. She was a loving wife and mother, and a friend to many. In her younger years she was an avid tennis player, spending countless hours at The Racquet Club of Hixson where she and Frank made numerous friends. She also enjoyed spending time on the lake with family and friends and numerous family beach vacations in Hilton Head, South Carolina. She had a love for plants and was a consummate "green thumb.” For years she had a small plant care business in which she cared for and maintained house plants for local families and businesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, parents Alton and Alma Maddox, sister Niva Butler (Horace), brothers Ralph Maddox (Genell), Billy Maddox (Freda), and Wayne Maddox. She was also preceded in death by daughter June Krug and sons-in-law Jim Krug and Gary Clark.
She is survived by sister Bernice Rogers, son Franko Harris (Micki), daughters Mary Danules (Joe), Ginny Manning (James), Julie Clark, Nancy Elliott (Russ), sister-in-law Debra Neal (Darrell), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other loved ones.
She was a special, kind-hearted person who touched many lives in various ways and will be missed immensely by all her family and friends.
The family would like to send a special thanks to all of the people who have cared for her, especially over the past month: Niece Katrina Yates, the staff of Siskin Rehab Hospital, Life Care Center of Collegedale, and Hospice of Chattanooga.
Visitation will be at Chattanooga Funeral Home North on Monday, September 15 from 12-2 PM with services to immediately follow.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153 Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
