Bettye Ruth Love Haughton Beene

She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Ruth A. Love; siblings, Barbara Jean, William Michael and Laura Janette.

Betty married James D. Haughton (deceased), and they had 5 children. She was also preceded in death by her sons, James D. Haughton, Jr. and Donald E. Haughton; and a granddaughter, Jackie Haughton.

Betty went on to marry William Harrison Beene, Jr. (deceased), and they had a son, William Harrison (Sonya) Beene, III.

Bettye is survived by her children, William T. (Catherine) Haughton, Ronald E. Haughton, Sheryle “Sherry” (Rodney Crowe) Haughton, William Harrison (Sonya) Beene, III; daughter-in-law, June Haughton; siblings, Thomas Edward and John Herman Love; granddaughter, Michelle Hazelwood; great-granddaughter Marley and three great great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Payton and Kyler.

Bettye was a 1946 graduate of Central High School in Chattanooga. She raised her six children in Morristown, TN and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She became a realtor and was in the Tennessee who’s who as the first woman in Tennessee to obtain a Broker’s License; after many successful years in real estate, she opened her own China Gallery and Jewelry store. In her later years she returned to her hometown of Chattanooga. Bettye was a wonderful seamstress, cook, gardener, crafter, and an avid reader. She felt it important to keep all the families together and loved family gatherings. Bettye lived a long healthy life at 98 years, prior to falling into the care of Hearth Hospice. We want to thank the staff and employees at Hearth Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Betty’s life will follow at 1 p.m. on Friday at the North Chapel with Reverend Grady Cooper officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
