Charles “Charlie” L. Swain, age 88 of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Friday, July 5, 2024. He was born to Lewis and Alice Swain February 1, 1936 in Greeneville, TN. Charlie then married Mary Elizabeth Swain February 14, 1981. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to trout fish and hike in the Tellico Mountains, but most importantly, he loved his family. Charlie was a member of The University Seventh Day Adventist Church in Collegedale, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above and his sister, Carolyn.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Mary Elizabeth Swain; all his children, biological, step, and adopted, whom he loved dearly; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all his hospice nurses, sitters, and caregivers. All family and friends who stopped by, called, brought food, stayed up at night, sent cards, flowers, and care packages. Charlie kept saying, “I didn’t know I was loved so much.” So please know your love was felt.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm on Tuesday, July 23, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2 pm on Tuesday, at the North Chapel. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
