

Born in Chattanooga on March 26, 1921, he was the son of the late Granville and Pauline Lawson Watson.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in World War II as a gunnery and radio operator. He also served as a member of the Air Force Reserve from 1946-1950.
Charles was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and he retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years. He was a proud member of the American Legion for 69 years, where he was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps and also served as Manager of the Volunteer Cadets Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. He served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was past president of the Red Bank Lions Club and past Commander of the Legion of Honor of the Alhambra Shrine and he was in the Shriner’s band. When Charles was not busy working and serving with various organizations, one of his favorite past times was playing golf at Valley Brook Golf and Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aliene Evans Watson and a sister, Jean Robertson.
Charles is survived by two sons, Charles E. Watson, III (Joyce) of Ringgold, and Paul Martin Watson of Chattanooga; one daughter, Phyllis Lynn Fellows (Chuck) of Bradenton, Florida; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brother, William Watson of Ooltewah.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 11, and from 12 to 1 pm on Wednesday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Charles’ Life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, at the North Chapel. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, or the Red Bank Lions Club, or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
