

Derrick was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. He was a graduate of Boyd-Buchanan School where he played trumpet in the band. He attended Chattanooga State and was employed by Savannah Valley Utility and also worked the ticket gate at the Lookouts for many years. Among many of his activities, he was a proud member of the Siskin Rebounders Wheelchair Basketball Team and recently was living out his dream of being a sports broadcaster by doing play by play for Boyd-Buchanan basketball online.
He was an avid supporter of Boyd-Buchanan athletics, the Lady Mocs Basketball and a huge Pittsburg Steelers fan. “Uncle D” also loved playing with his three nephews.
Derrick made friends everywhere he went and touched everyone’s life that he met. He faced many physical obstacles throughout his life and always did so with a positive attitude and never complained. Derrick was truly an inspiration to us all.
Derrick was preceded in death by his grandparents James G. and Betty F. Holder and Jack L. Pyle along with two uncles, Ronald G. Holder and Scott L. Pyle.
He is survived by his parents, Richard S. and Patricia J. Holder, his sister Kelli (Jay) Donnelly and his three nephews Jack, Holder and Patrick Donnelly who loved their “Uncle D” , his grandmother Jean Pyle Schillaci and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, on Monday, March 21, at 2 p.m.
.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 20, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., and also on Monday from 12-2 p.m.
