Uncle Don,
Some of my earliest childhood memories are of you calling me and Nicole on our birthdays and you and Cherl were usually the first to call in the morning.  I always remember you in all my dearest family memories of us having family gatherings and especially Sunday dinners at Mamaws.  I still have the stick you taught me how to whittle with that day on Mamaw's swingset.  I remember your laugh...we all have that laugh...but I can hear it now and you always made my Momma laugh when you did.  My Momma loves her big brother and you know Mamaw loves her son. You made our family proud.  My Mom always talked about you and how you served our country in Vietnam, but we can never truly understand how much you gave, what you survived through, and the toll it took on you.  The stories Momma told me of your service inspired me to write a research paper when I was in high school on Vietnam entitled "Hell No, We Won't Go."  I remember reading the paper to her and she started crying because it was a glimpse of your pain.  I just found out since your passing that you volunteered to go serve.  I appreciate everything you have done for me, I appreciate what a good brother you were to my Momma, a good son to Mamaw and Papaw, and you have know idea how much you will be missed and how many lives you touched that will never be the same.  You will be forever in our family's hearts and we will see you again one sweet day.

I knew Don for many years, in high school and just running around Brainerd.  We all went into the military around the same time and those of us who went to war still have lasting effects of that terrible time-as did Don.  I know that he is finally at peace with the Lord and all the sorrows can finally be left behind.  I never knew Don to ever loose his temper-he was always in a good mood and just a good all around guy.  He will be missed.  Semper Fi my friend- you will always be remembered.
