

Donald Weston Garner, of Red Bank, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018. He was 91 years old. Don was a graduate of Red Bank High School and later a graduate of the University of Chattanooga. He received his pilot’s license and enlisted in the Air Force the day of his high school graduation. Don was a lifelong resident of Red Bank and the Chattanooga area, with the exception of several years spent living in Roanoke, Virginia in the 1980s. Don worked for the Southern Railway and then the Norfolk Southern Railway for 40 years and was always a loyal, conscientious and dedicated employee. Don’s passions included spending time with his wife Jewell, working on his house and in the yard, and cheering for the Tennessee Vols. He was a loyal and supportive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and colleague, and he will be missed by many. Don was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Jewell Garner, his son Tim Morris, his parents, Louie and Pearl Garner, his sister Gail Ripple and his nephew Kent McGee. He is survived by his granddaughter Laura Morris, his grandson Tim Morris Jr. and wife Susan, his great-granddaughters Catherine, Avery and Samantha Morris, his daughter-in-law Judy Morris, his niece Robin Godsey, his niece Suzanne Hammond and husband Krew, and his nephew Taylor Boyd. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 to 11 am at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN. There will then be a graveside service at 11 am at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Don’s name to a charity close to your heart.
