

Dorothy "Dot" Harvey Gann, age 81, of Hixson passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. She was born September 4, 1929 to the late Lloyd and Mae Harvey and was a native and lifelong resident of Hixson.
Mrs. Gann was a member of Burks United Methodist Church, where for several years, she served in the choir, the Christmas Cantata, Young at Heart, the Eldridge Sunday School Class as well as several other committees and groups. She was a volunteer for the Community Kitchen. She was employed by DuPont until her retirement after 34 years of service. Upon retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her family. She especially enjoyed her trips to the beach. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working in the garden.
Dot will be especially remembered for her immense love for her family, her devotion to the Lord, as a dedicated community philanthropist always giving generously, for her quick wit and sense of humor, and the smile which was always on her face and in her heart.
Her husband of 58 years, Calvin Gann, Sr., brother, Doyle Harvey and sister, Lorene Sullivan preceded her in death.
Survivors include her three devoted children, Rita (Dewaine) Garner of Chattanooga; Sandra Gann of Decatur, Georgia; son, Calvin (Beth) Gann, Jr. of Hixson; her loving grandchildren, Trinity (Eddie) Pearson; Tyler Person; Dillon and Katie Gann; Blake and Jake Duncan; great- grandchildren, Brooklynn and Bentley Pearson; sister-in-law, Eunice Harvey; brother-in-law, Virgil Sullivan both of Hixson.
Funeral services for Dot will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the North Chapel with Wayne Blake officiating.
Entombment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
