Edith Marie Wright

Edith (Edie) Marie Crowell Wright, 83, of Ringgold died at her residence on Monday, August 22, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Edie had lived in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area for the last 64 years. She was a member of Cherokee Valley Baptist Church.

Edie was born on July 31, 1928 in Collinwood, TN to the late Gordon C. (Dave) and Bertha Mae Jackson Crowell. She was the widow of Homer Wright.

Edie attended the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing, graduating in 1950. She worked at Erlanger Hospital for 30 years in several capacities, including Supervisor of the Isolation Unit, Supervisor of the Orthopedic Unit and was Erlanger’s first IV Nurse.

Following her retirement from Erlanger, she worked at East Ridge Humana Hospital for 15 years.

Edie was preceded in death by her husband and parents, sisters, Leona C. Hall of Powell’s Crossroads, TN, Jewell Mottweiler of Memphis, TN and Aline C. Phifer of Nashville, TN; nephew, Frank Phifer, Jr. of Quebeck, TN; brothers, Hoyt Crowell of Whitwell, TN, Verner Crowell of Nashville, TN and Ransom Crowell of Chickamauga, GA.

She is survived by her sister, Mary C. Dixon of Ringgold, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Franky Ridley and the Rev. Joe Sellers officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenny Mason, Joe Sellers, Trampus Sellers, Josh Sellers and Jim Kappher. The surviving members of the 1950 Class of Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday and from 12 until 1 p.m. Saturday at the North Chapel
