“Cay” was born in Chattanooga to the late Robert Olan and Nora Myrtle Shields Caldwell. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Abilene Christian College and her Master’s from the Fine Arts University of Iowa in Iowa City. “Cay” retired from the Tinton Falls New Jersey school system where she taught various subjects, including fine arts and eventually became assistant principle.
“Cay” is survived by a sister, Virginia Jo D’aria; niece, Elizabeth Sombrotto; grand nieces, Marilyn and Julia; longtime friend, Rosemary Maxwell; several cousins and many friends in the Chattanooga and upstate New York.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 pm on Friday, May 15, at Greenwood Cemetery with her cousin Tom Shields officiating.
We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the cemetery.
